Quick solutions to common office technology problems

1 Internet Connectivity Issues

  1. Check WiFi connection - ensure you're connected to correct network
  2. Restart your router/modem - unplug for 30 seconds, then plug back in
  3. Flush DNS cache: Open Command Prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns
  4. Check ethernet cable if using wired connection
  5. Contact IT if issue persists after 10 minutes

2 Printer Offline Problems

  1. Check printer power and connection (USB or network)
  2. Restart the printer - turn off, wait 30 seconds, turn on
  3. Clear print spooler: Stop "Print Spooler" service, delete files in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, restart service
  4. Update printer drivers from manufacturer's website
  5. Set printer as default if multiple printers installed

3 Slow Computer Performance

  1. Restart your computer - clears memory and stops stuck processes
  2. Check startup programs: Task Manager > Startup tab > Disable unnecessary items
  3. Run Disk Cleanup: Search "Disk Cleanup" > Select drive > Clean up system files
  4. Check RAM usage in Task Manager - close memory-heavy applications
  5. Run antivirus scan to check for malware

4 Email Problems

  1. Verify email credentials - re-enter password if prompted
  2. Check email server settings (IMAP/POP3, port numbers, SSL/TLS)
  3. Clear email app cache: Outlook > File > Options > Advanced > Empty Auto-Complete List
  4. Check attachment size limits (usually 10-25MB max)
  5. Try webmail interface to isolate app-specific issues

5 Application Crashes

  1. Update the application to latest version
  2. Clear application cache/temp files
  3. Run in compatibility mode (Windows: Right-click > Properties > Compatibility)
  4. Check system requirements - ensure your PC meets minimum specs
  5. Reinstall application if crashes continue

6 Network Drive Issues

  1. Check VPN connection if accessing drives remotely
  2. Reconnect network drive: File Explorer > This PC > Map network drive
  3. Verify drive permissions with IT department
  4. Ping the server: Open Command Prompt, type ping [servername]
  5. Restart computer to refresh network connections
